When the storm hit I could feel the house shaking under the buffeting wind. Even the glass on the sliding glass doors at the front of the house were visibly flexing. It was scary. We had water coming in under the glass doors and then the power went out and left us without power or air conditioning on one of the hottest and most humid nights I have ever experienced in Kalgoorlie.
After the storm passed Phil and I got the flashlights (torches) out and went for a walk to see the extent of the damage. I took these photos the next morning at first light.
The storm blew the front fence down.
Trees and branches were down throught the property.
Our plastic patio furniture got blown up against the house and then blown across the front and around the side of the house. Then it was picked up and thrown over the 6 foot pool fence and jammed under the chassis of the Pajero which was parked in the drive way. When Phil pulled it out, it was mostly broken to bits.
New skylight in the shed!
Pots and plants on the windward side of the 50% shadehouse were thrown about.
The top of this tree was just twisted off and the canopy below thrown into Penns Depot, destroying the back fences as it went. |
After seeing all that, I was thinking that we were lucky the roof of the house was still on.
